PERSONAL INFORMATION I was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. My parents had a 21 acre island on Sharbot Lake North of Kingston and in the summers we lived on the island without plumbing, heating, electricity, or phone. The 'No Phone' part did not work out too well in our teenage years, because we had only had a phone since I was about 8, and they quickly became 'more important than air!'. However in our younger years and again after we had young children of our own, we had much enjoyment from the Island (21 acres of swamp, rock and trees). The entire lake was the exclusive property of my brother and me as we raced all over it with our 3hp and later 12 hp motor and boat. I married met my wife/life partner, Agnes, at work in Toronto and we were married in 1972 we and have two sons, one daughter-in-law, a grandson (June 2002) and granddaughter (April 2004). Our grandchildren have become a very large part of our lives and we are grateful we live in the same city so we can visit and enjoy them regularly. KISMET... As I said above, Agnes and I met at work (Skyline Cablevision), in Toronto (I move there in 1970 from Kingston and she from Quebec City same year). We believe it was fated to happen. In 1969 a buddy of mine and I jumped into his new Mustang and took off for the weekend to Atlantic City and then to Wildwood for some fun in the sun. It was a great memorable weekend. Only later, when talking of our life's experiences, did Agnes and I discover that on that same weekend she and a friend of hers had left Quebec City and travelled to Atlantic City and Wildwood also. Clearly 'someone' was trying to get us to meet. I UNDERSTAND RELOCATION... After college, I moved to Toronto and began my career in the Cable Television business. During those years Agnes and I moved from the West end of Toronto, to Don Mills Rd and Sheppard, to Ajax (where both our boys were born), to Mississauga, to Ottawa and finally to Burlington, where we have lived since 1986. CAREER PATH... After my Cable TV career (17 years), I worked in the computer networking field for 5 years as an owner/partner and when we sold it I stayed on to help integrate the two operations and later to act as National Sales Manager, for the Communication Technical Services team. I also did some free-lance consulting and worked in the leasing business and for a software developer and had a couple of home-based marketing companies (in overlapping periods). Life treated me well and these were all great experiences. Real Estate had long been an interest of mine and I knew it was something I wanted to experience somewhere along my career line. I started taking my courses to get my license in the fall of 2003 and began my new career in the following spring. I have always enjoyed people so this is a natural for me. I am now getting to practice all of my life's learning’s in one job. I find it very rewarding. My goal is to maintain a level of business that I can manage myself and provide personal service to each of my clients. In the fall of 2012, Agnes is scheduled to retire from her current job and she too will become licensed and we will work together helping people meet their Real Estate goals. VOLUNTEERISM... Over the years I have been drawn to doing volunteer work in my community and my professional life such as: a Jaycee and a skating coach - beginner’s level, in my early life; have belonged to several professional associations and was always interested in helping move the programs along. Since being in the Halton/Burlington community, I have become very active in working to improve community care within the Mental Health area of our Healthcare system, in such capacities as: president of the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, (SSO) Burlington Chapter for 10+ years, served on the community advisory board of the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital's Psychiatric and Mental Health Services Committee since the late 1990's and was actively involved in the founding of the PACT for Halton organization - founding Chairperson and still an active board member. I helped (with representatives from other organizations in Halton) to initiate the "Talking About Mental Illness" (TAMI) program, run by staff from the Region of Halton, to promote awareness and "preparedness" among high school students in Halton. I participated, to represent Families, on the Central South and Halton Mental Health Reform Implementation Task Force in 2002 and am still a participant in the continuing effort to reform Health Care delivery and in 2005 I became a member of the provincial Board of Directors for the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) and in 2008 was appointed President and Board Chair. Shortly thereafter I was asked to represent the SSO on the Schizophrenia Society of Canada's Board of Directors. Volunteering is a therapy. Giving to others has a healing effect on the donor and I encourage anyone who wants to 'feel good' to give your time to a cause of your choice. DONATIONS... As I find myself becoming busier with my Real Estate practice, time is becoming a "less-available" commodity. Yet I am still committed to giving where I can. To that end, I have made a commitment to donate a portion of my Real Estate earnings to promote community service development in the Halton Region. MY PLEDGE... Please be assured that not only will I handle your personal needs with care, but you too will be helping your community when you choose to work with me as your real estate sales representative.
